FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Residents on Tuesday once again staged a protest demonstration against the governor of western Farah province, calling for the top provincial official to be removed.
It was for a second time in as many weeks the residents emerged on roads to protest against the governor, Mohammad Asif Nang.
The same protestors had previously erected tents in Farah City, seeking removal of Nang as the governor for his alleged involvement in corruption.
The protestors had previously alleged that security deteriorated under the incumbent governor in Farah, a claim local officials had rejected.
Nearly 300 people took part in Tuesday’s demonstration, chanting slogans against the governor.
A member of the provincial council and one of the rally participants, Farid Bakhtawar, said they had been protesting against the governor over the past two weeks, but the central government was yet to listen to their demand.
Without showing any document to the media, the public representative said they had documents showing the governor’s involvement in 62 corruption incidents.
He said they had sent a copy of the documents to the president and all people would be informed about the issue through a press conference. He said they would continue their protest until the governor was removed from his office.
Another participant of the rally, Abdul Sattar, said the governor of Farah was incompetent because insecurity increased under him.
But Nang’s spokesman Mohammad Nasir Mehri strongly rejected the governor’s involvement in corruption.
He said such protests were organized by mafia groups to promote their interests. He said regional intelligence agencies were also behind the protest because Nang was the first governor who had practically launched work on the Bakhshabad dam.
He said real faces of the protestors would be exposed to the people soon in order people understand who they were and what they wanted.
