KABUL (Pajhwok): The Attorney General Office (AGO) has suspended the Kabul police chief and garrison commander, as investigations into recent attacks going on.
Speaking to reporters late on Sunday, AGO spokesman Jamshed Rassouli said on directives from unity government leaders, recent firing on protesters was also being probed.
In the process, the Kabul police head Hassan Shah Frogh and Garrison Commander Gul Nabi Ahmadzai had been suspended, he added.
Two weeks back, Kabul was rocked by a huge truck bombing, which resulted in the killing of more than 150 people and injuries to about 500 others.
Some people took to the streets and accused the government of failing to prevent such attacks. The protest turned violent when five people were killed and some others wounded. Security forces were accused of firing on protesters.
After the deadly explosion, another blast hit funeral for Salem Ezedyar, son of Senate’s Deputy Chairman Mohammad Alam Ezedyar. He was one of the protestors killed.
After the two incidents, protesters erected tents in different part of the city on main roads, asking the top security officials to resign.
The closure of the busy roads has created problems for commuters and result in blockades that last hours.
The AGO spokesman said the recent attacks were being investigated independently and the results would be shared with the nation.
