A dozen rebels eliminated in Paktika offensive

SHARANA (Pajhwok): A dozen insurgents have been killed and five others wounded during an ongoing operation since Saturday in Barmal district of southeastern Paktika province, an official said on Sunday.

Col. Dadullah Khan Hotak, deputy police chief for Paktika, told Pajhwok Afghan News the operation launched on Saturday in Tortangi area of the district was still underway. Four Afghan Local Police (ALP) members had so far been injured during the operation.

Meanwhile, Paktika governor’s spokesman, Mohammad Rahman Ayaz, also confirmed the casualties sustained by the rebels, saying a vehicle, a machinegun, ammunition and some weapons belonging to insurgents were also recovered by security forces.

A resident of Solimainzai area of Barmal district, Abdullah, said the operation had been ongoing in the district over the past two days. “Currently, government soldiers are in our village and Tortangi area and Taliban have been driven away.”

There has been so far no word from insurgents about the operation in Barmal, a remote and insecur district that shares border with Pakistan.
