KABUL in developing its agriculture sector.

A statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) received by Pajhwok Afghan News said Czech agriculture minister ‎Marian Jurečka was called on his Afghan counterpart Asadullah Zamir today.

The two talked about Czech’s private sector investment in the agriculture sector of Afghanistan and some other important issues, the statement said.

Miroslav Toman, the Czech envoy for Afghanistan, Atiqullah Nasrat, head of Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) and a number of private sector investors also attended the meeting.

Asadullah Zamir said agriculture development was an important part of Afghanistan economy but effective steps had not been taken in the area over the past two decades.

He said Afghanistan was interested in benefitting from the abilities and opportunities of the Czech Republic in agriculture and added that Afghan and Czech investors should also use available opportunities and invest in agriculture sector.

Zamir said Czech government had previously implemented some development projects in central Logar province through the Provincial Reconstruction).

Marian Jurečka stressed close relations between the two countries and said his country and Afghanistan had historic friendship but his country had been unable to continue its cooperation with Kabul due to the decades long war.

He said his country was ready to cooperate with Afghanistan in different areas. Jurečka said he would assess aid and cooperation opportunities during his trip.
