Afghani regains value, fuel prices up in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): The afghani regained some value against the US dollar last week when the prices of fuel and gold jumped and of flour dipped in Kabul, market sources said Saturday.

According to Sadaqat Money Exchange Service in Sara-i-Shahzada in Kabul, one US dollar was accounted for 69.70 afghanis and 1,000 Pakistani rupees for 618 afghanis this week against last week’s rates of 70afs and 624afs respectively.

A moneychanger at Sadaqat Money Exchange Service said Da Afghanistan Bank (central bank) had offered more US dollars to the marked for appreciating the Afghan currency value.

The price of fuel increases. Abdul Hadi, a worker at Wazir Abad Fuel Station in Kabul, told Pajhwok Afghan News one liter of diesel cost 46afs and the same amount of petrol 45afs against last week’s 45afs and 44afs.

However, the price of liquefied gas remains steady. Ahmadullah, a gas dealer in Kolola Pushta area, said the rate of one kilogram of the commodity remained stable at 55afs.

Haji Hassain, a firewood seller in Charahi Shaheed area of Kabul, said the price of 560 kilograms of peeled oak stood at 7,800afs and the same quantity of cedar 7,200afs.

Fazal Rahman, head of the Food Traders Union, said the price of 50kg of Kazakhstani flour dipped from 1,140afs to 1,130afs.

But he said 49kg of Pakistani sugar cost 1,750afs, 16 liters of Khurshid ghee 1,040afs and 24kg of Pakistani rice 2,000afs, the same rates as of last week’s.

Meanwhile, Noor Ahmad Khairkhwa, a tea seller in Kabul Mandavi, said a kilogram of Indonesian green tea cost 280afs and the same amount of African black tea 300afs – registering no change in their prices.

Ahmad Wali Panjsheri, who owns a grocery store in Dahn-i-Bagh area, sold a 49-kg bag of sugar for 1,900afs, a 16-litre tin of ghee for 1,150afs, a 50-kg sack of Kazakhstani flour for 1,200, 24-kg Pakistani rice for 2,500afs, a kilogram of green Indonesian tea for 300afs and the same quantity of black African tea for 350afs.

Haji Fawad Ahmad Salehzada, a jeweler in Timor Shahi area, said the price of one gram of Arabian gold increased from 2,400afs to 2,450afs and the same quantity of Russian variety from 1,900afs to 1,950afs.
