Probe urged after police slap 2 Ghazni education officials

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Quick response unit police allegedly beat education department officials in front of their department in this capital city of southern Ghazni province on Thursday.

Mohibullah Ansari, the provincial education director, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident happened before noon.

He said police thrashed the education officials in front of their department building. “When I went there the police also misbehaved with me.”

The director said the matter should be seriously investigated as the motive behind the incident could not be ascertained.

Mohammad Arif Noori, the governor’s spokesman, said the incident happened during a protest by people close to the governor’s house.

“When an education officer arrives, he wants to enter his department, but the soldiers did not allow him and it led to a dispute.”

Only two officials were slapped, he said, adding the incident would be probed.
