GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): The residents of Qarabagh district in southern Ghazni province on Thursday protested against Afghan Local Police (ALP) forces and uprising members.

The protest comes a day after a clash between the ALP forces and Taliban militants in the district.

Khan Mohammad, a resident of Naim Kala village of the district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the ALP men shot dead a child who was running towards his home during Wednesday’s clash between the Taliban and ALP forces.

“ALP forces and uprising members shot the child,” he said.

Abdullah, a shopkeeper in the center of Qarabagh district, said that an ALP soldier on Wednesday tried to take away oil forcibly from a shopkeeper in the district bazaar.

“Few minutes later, a number of ALP forces came and severely beat that shopkeeper. ALP forces come to the district bazaar and forcibly take things from shopkeepers on a daily basis,” he said.

Abdur Rahim, another resident of the district, said that a rickshaw driver who carried something for police was severely injured after a roadside bombing tore through his three-wheeler.

Rahim said that residents of the district protested and closed the district bazaar in response to the recent incidents and ALP brutality.

Shopkeepers of Qarabagh bazaar said they would not reopen their shops until the government resolved their problem.

Mohammad Arif Noori, the governor’s spokesman, said that ALP forces had not harassed or killed anyone in Qarabagh district. He said protest was the right of people.

People in other areas of the province in the past had also complained about bad behavior of ALP forces.
