12 rebels, 3 security personnel killed in Ghazni clashes

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): At least 12 Taliban insurgents and three Afghan security forces have been killed during clashes in southern Ghazni province, officials said Sunday.

Ghazni police chief, Col. Farid Ahmad Mashal, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Taliban insurgents stormed security posts in Andar and Giro districts of the province on Saturday night.

He said 12 insurgents and three Afghan soldiers were killed and seven rebels and two soldiers wounded during the clashes.

The militants’ attacks were pushed back and the areas are currently under the Afghan forces control, he added.

Qaribullah, a resident of Andar district, said clashes between the Afghan forces and the Taliban usually occurred during the night in their area.

He said security situation has worsened in the district and people worried about it.

Taliban did not comment yet on the incidents.

Battles have intensified in Ghazni province since the beginning of current solar year and as result, Ghazni-Paktika highway has closed for traffic from the last several months.
