JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Three people have been killed and eight others wounded after a group of militants attacked a midwife training centre in the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Sunday.
Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the attack took place at about 11am on Saturday when gunmen detonated their explosives at the entrance to the training centre.
He said the assault that lasted six hours ended with killing of two gunmen and three other people, including two guards of the centre. Eight were wounded, including three policemen, three civilians and two guards.
The security forces rescued 69 midwives and workers of the centre. Faqir Mohammad, an eyewitness, said the blast took place before the clash erupted.
There has been no claim of responsibility for the group assault so far.
