Most people want ceasefire, optimistic for peace in the country: Survey

KABUL Network (AWN) show that  of every 10 people nine desired ceasefire, eight are optimistic for the establishment of peace, eight believed government commitment for peace and as many have termed government’s steps undertaken for peace as important.

The Salah Consortium and AWN with the financial support of European Union (EU) conducted the survey in July and August by interviewing 4,725 people in 34 provinces of the country.

The number of people interviewed for the survey in every province was considered on the bases of the Central Statistic Organization (CSO).

This survey was conducted through 68 men and 66 women.

The finding of the survey showed that in general 72 percent people ---- 46 maximum and 36 minimum ---- believed on the establishment of peace in the country. The percentage of women in is three percent down then men in this category.

Over 84 percent women ---- 60 percent maximum and 24 percent minimum termed important practical steps for peace such as the declaration of International Ulmea Conference for Peace and Stability in Afghanistan regarding conflict in Afghanistan and cease fire in the country ahead of Eid-ul-Adha as important.

Over 75 percent people --- 39 percent maximum 36 percent minimum ---- believe over the government and President Ashraf Ghani’s commitment regarding peace.

48 percent people trust the international community and NATO commitment for peace in Afghanistan while 52 percent don’t believe them.

Half of the interviewed persons believe that Taliban would join peace process while half of the others don’t trust the Taliban to reconcile.

Ninety-six termed percent interviewed termed the presence of foreign terrorist such as Daesh, 41 percent termed the presence of foreign forces, 38 percent termed the presence of powerful individuals, private militia, land mafia, 37 percent termed the weak government administration and lack of governance, 34 percent termed the presence of drug and natural resources mafia, 33 percent termed corruption and 31 interviewed persons termed the regional countries as first category threats in the way of peace in the country.
