JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Local officials on Friday said an investigation from Afghan Local Police (ALP) forces based in Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province would be conducted soon.
The decision to investigate ALP forces of Achin districts comes after a protest of Shinwari people against the forces came under a suicide attack in which 230 people suffered casualties.
Residents had gathered in Daka area of Momand Dara district for a demonstration against a former ALP commander Jalal Pacha and his son Bilal Pacha (current ALP commander) who they accused of killing and beating innocent people and as well robbing locals of their valuables.
Nangarhar governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, told Pajhwok Afghan News the provincial security meeting chaired by Governor Hayatullah Hayat decided to investigate the ALP forces.
He said the investigation would be launched by a team headed by deputy Nangarhar prolice chief and comprised of officials from the governor’s house, Afghan National Army (ANA) forces, National Directorate of Security (NDS), border forces and public order forces.
The team would travel to Achin district and comprehensively investigate the local police forces there, he added.
After the investigation completed, all relatives or friends of Bilal Pacha working in ALP form would be fired and replaced by other people by the police headquarter, Khogyani said.
Efforts for arresting Jalal Pacha, father of Bilal Paha have been accelerated after security organs were ordered to do so.
