‘Interim govt idea an attempt to destroy Afghan forces’

KABUL was an attempt to do away with the Afghan security forces.

Dr. Fazl Mohammad Fazli, an advisor to President Ashraf Ghani, on Tuesday wrote on his Facebook page that the idea of a provisional government was being rumored on social media and other media outlets by political elites who lacked roots in the society.

He said the president and the government had a clear stance about the issue and any attempt about the political fate of Afghanistan either starting from zero or equal to ‘Benon Sevan plan’ would destroy Afghanistan and kill its people.

Based on the Benon Sevan plan, the power was peacefully transferred from former Afghan President Dr. Najibullah to the Mujahideen, but it led to domestic war and failed.

Benon Sevan was then director and senior political adviser to Representative of the UN Secretary-General on settlement of situation relating to Afghanistan.

“We once again have an independent military since the last 17 years, particularly the last five years, despite some problems our forces are independently and bravely fighting against terrorists and enemies of this country,” Fazli said.

He said the plan about creating an interim government, no matter who suggested it, was an attempt to destroy the Afghan forces and was a national treason.

“We have offered the Taliban peace talks without any preconditions in order to bring peace to this country and hear all their serious questions and respond,” he said.

He said US envoy for reconciliation in Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad and the US Embassy in Kabul had also rejected the rumors about creation of an interim government in Afghanistan (for reaching a peace deal with the Taliban).

“Even if these rumors are right we as an independent government would support only things that lead to a strong system and law enforcement,” he said.
