Egypt reaffirms support for Afghan peace process

KABUL Saleh Mustafa Ahmad has assured his country’s support in Afghan peace and reconciliation process, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said on Saturday.

The envoy pledged Cairo’s support to Afghan peace process during a meeting with Adela Raz, economic secretary of the MoFA, the statement said.

Raz termed the role Egyptian scholars from Al Azhar University in Afghan peace process and promoting moderate Islam in Afghanistan as effective and demanded greater participation of Al Azhar Ulema in the conferences of the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC).

She also demanded the provision of more higher education scholarships for Afghan students, including girls.

Bilateral relationship and celebration of 90-years of diplomatic relationship between Kabul and Cairo was also discussed during the meeting.
