PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): China says it is in favour of a stable Afghanistan’s role in bringing peace to its war-torn neighbour.
Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing told a seminar at the University of Peshawar's Area Study Centre Beijing and Kabul enjoyed cordial relations.
But due to security concerns, China had been unable to operate actively in Afghanistan, the diplomat explained, saying the Afghans had endured 40 years of war.
After four decades of suffering, the Afghans had every right to live in peace, remarked the ambassador, who commended Pakistan's efforts for a negotiated end to the war.
He hastened to add the people of Afghanistan would have to decide their future. Beijing would support any initiative to promote the Afghan peace process, the ambassador said.
“A consensus settlement between Kabul and Taliban will have positive impact on the development of Afghanistan and regional integration,” he affed.
