Kabul, Islamabad confer on security cooperation

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Senior Afghan and Pakistani officials have held talks on security cooperation and the peace process in Afghanistan.

Afghan National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib and members of the team he led met Pakistani officials in the garrison town of Rawalpindi on Tuesday.

Afghanistan’s acting interior minister Massoud Andarabi and senior military officials also attended the meeting with the Pakistan army chief and foreign secretary. .

The Pakistani side was led by Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, with Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood also in attendance, according to Daily Times.

The Pakistan army chief had extended an invitation to the Afghan team, a contact that ended a hiatus in Kabul-Islamabad contacts since November.

President Ashraf Ghani’s phone conversation with Prime Minister Imran Khan on May 5 is believed to have led to normalisation of relations.
