FEROZKOH/ NEILLI (Pajhwok): At least 15 members of a public uprising group, including civilians, have been killed in a Taliban province, officials said on Saturday.
Hamidullah Mutahid, a member of the provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants conducted the attack in the Pushta Noor area of Dawlatyar district on Friday night. He said 15 pro-government militiamen were killed.
Another member of the provincial council, Abdul Hamid Natiqi, said that several civilians were also among the dead.
However, the public representatives did not comment about casualties among the insurgents.
Abdul Hai Khatifi, the governor’s spokesman, said they had not yet received details of the incident. The Taliban have also said noting in this regard.
According to another report, one policeman was killed and six others were wounded as a result of a Taliban attack in the Pato district of Daikundi province.
Police spokesman Ghulam Sakhi Ghafari told Pajhwok the insurgents stormed a police check-post in the district before dawn. He said the militants could not capture the post as they faced strong resistance from policemen.
Two rebels were killed and a third wounded, he said, adding that currently the situation was under control.
