KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Goldsmiths in northern Kunduz province have gone on strike by closing their shops in protest against what they said “threats to their lives and properties.”

The jewellery shop owners and workers are observing strike in Kunduz City, the provincial capital, after unknown gunmen looted a jewellery shop in the Imam Sahib port area. The shop owner was also critically injured in the incident.

In reaction, all jewelers in Kunduz City closed their shops and staged protest on Sunday, demanding security and protection against threats.

Mateen Zargar, one of the goldsmiths, said: “It is not the first incident of its kind, similar incidents had happened in the past and nobody investigated them.”

Police spokesman Syed Sareer Hussaini said police had launched their investigation into the Kunduz shop loot incident.

The residents of Kunduz province have long been complaining about the presence of illegal armed individuals and powerful figures, but their grievances remain unaddressed.
