Sensitive materials delivered to 5 provinces: IEC

 KABUL) said on Sunday.

The commission, however, expressed fear that insecurity in some provinces could threaten the next month’s polls.

Acting IEC spokesman Zabihullah Sadaat told Pajhwok Afghan News during an interview that sensitive election materials and learning devices had been transferred to Herat, Badghis, Farah, Paktika and Ghazni provinces.

He added similar items were being packed and dispatched to Kandahar, Zabul, Nimroz and Helmand provinces and the materials would reach there today or tomorrow.

Terming the process as successful, Sadaat said the delivery of sensitive items and learning devices was underway normally and there was no major problem in this regard so far.

Referring to insecurity nation-wide, Sadaat said insecurity was a major threat to the Sept. 28 presidential polls.

The IEC official raised concern over insecurity as the Taliban on Saturday stormed Kunduz City from three sides, almost collapsing the strategic capital of Kunduz province once again, but timely response of security forces repulsed the Taliban.

“Unfortunately, security forces are fighting with Taliban militants in some provinces currently and we are worried about this situation as sensitive and non-sensitive materials should reach provinces in time,” he said.

As many as 17 candidates are in the run for the presidency.
