JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Fifty-six militants were killed and wounded as 90 percent areas of the Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province were cleared, a military official said on Tuesday.
Lt. Col. Mohammad Haroon Yusafzai, spokesman for the 201st Selab Military Corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News around 35 villages had been purged of Daesh rebels in ongoing operations.
He said 12 rebels were injured during an operation to clear the remaining 10 percent of Achin areas.
According to Yusafzai, the insurgents had planted around 300 landmines in the area which were discovered and defused.
Security forces recovered a large quantity of weapons and explosives during the operations.
Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, said new check-posts and military instatallations were being created in the district to ensure peace and development in the area after the operation.
