KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): At least 13 security personnel have been killed and 11 others wounded in Taliban attacks in the Dasht-i-Archi district of northern Kunduz province.
A security source confided to Pajhwok Afghan News the militants conducted coordinated attacks on the district’s office complex, Qarluq area and security check-posts on Tuesday night.
He said 12 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and a policeman were killed and seven army personnel and four policemen wounded. The militants also captured an ANA sergeant, the official added.
Akhtar Mohammad, an inhabitant of the district, said a clash erupted at 11pm and continued until morning. “The militants torched security posts and inflicted casualties on the forces.”
As provincial police refused to comment, the Taliban confirmed the attack. The group’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid tweeted the rebels stormed a military base in the Klup area of Dasht-i-Archi.
He claimed 35 ANA personnel were killed and four others captured alive. The fighters seized the base and weapons, Mujahid said.
