PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani’s reelection will boost efforts to bring peace and stability to war-hit country Afghanistan, hopes a senior Pakistani political leader.
Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao greeted Ghani on winning a second term. He believed intra-Afghan negotiations, led by Kabul, would begin soon.
After the signing of a US-Taliban peace agreement, he said, Ghani would bring all stakeholders to the negotiating table in order to bring stability to the country.
“It is hoped the negotiation process would progress and the country would see lasting peace,” Sherpao tweeted, saying the prolonged war had caused immense sufferings to the Afghans.
The QWP chief asked Islamabad to play its role in bringing stability to the country. He asked the government to improve relations with Kabul.
“If peace is restored to Afghanistan, it would benefit the entire region, particularly Pakistan,” he argued, explaining stability in Pakistan was linked to peace in Afghanistan.
