KABUL (Pajhwok): Five villages along the Kabul-North highway in central Kabul province have never been secure for security forces, both national and foreign, during the past four decades.
These villages include Qala-i-Nasro area in Bagram district of central Parwan province and Barikab, Qala-i-Dasht, Subzsang and Nowpala villages of Qarabagh district of Kabul province.
Mullah Abdul Rahman, a resident of Qala-i-Nasro area, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the area was notorious for attacks on security forces by militants and other armed men for the past four decades.
The area is situated near to the US forces airbase in Bagram district and also near the Kabul-Bagram and Kabul-North highways.
Former Soviet Union troops who invaded Afghanistan in 1979 faced strong opposition from both Afghans and the international community, forcing the invading troops to eventually leave the country in 1989.
Abdul Rahman recalled the Mujahideen would come from Kohi Safi and Ghorband areas and attack Soviet troops.
According to him, Taliban militants have been attacking US and government forces in Qala-i-Nasro area over the past two decades because in the past the area people supported militants.
He said despite the presence of a number of security check-posts in the area, still the US airbase in Bagram often came under attack from the rebels.

Ahmad Junid, a resident of Qala-i-Sheikh village of Qarabagh district, told Pajhwok that insecurity increased in their area since one year.
He said, “A week back, Taliban militants installed their flag in Barikab area, but later security forces removed it.”
A number of other residents expressed similar views and urged the government to address people’s concerns in this regard.
Khawja Mohammad Hanif Sediqi, the Qarabagh district administrative chief, also confirmed insecurity in the area.
He did not provide details about the issue, but said efforts were underway to construct more check-posts in the area in near future.
Abdul Shakor Qudsi, Bagram district chief, also confirmed insecurity in the area and he also said efforts were underway to address the issue.
