KABUL (Pajhwok): The Kabul police chief has been sacked in the wake of a spike in attacks in the nation’s capital in recent weeks, the Ministry of Interior said on Sunday.
Earlier in the week, President Ashraf Ghani visited several police stations in the capital. He called the current security environment unacceptable, saying administrative changes had become inevitable
Brig. Gen. Amanullah Wahidi, who was made Kabul police head in April, was removed from his position soon after a series of blasts and gun attacks.
Tariq Arian, the ministry spokesman, confirmed Wahidi’s sacking, but declined to assign a reason for the decision. It is yet to be know who the new police chief will be for Kabul.
On Saturday, four explosions rocked the city, killing two people and wounding several others. The same day, an army colonel and his driver were killed in a gun attack in Kart-i-Naw area.
Fourteen rockets hit different parts of Kabul on the 101st anniversary of Afghanistan’s independence, despite special security arrangement that had been put in place.
