MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier, who has been fasting for 10 years for lasting peace, on Tuesday urged peace negotiators in Qatar to declare ceasefire.

The ongoing intra-Afghan peace talks are part of a landmark peace agreement between the US and the Taliban signed in Doha on February 29.

2nd Lt. Nizamuddin Farotan, 38, has been fasting for the last 10 years for the sake of peace and stability in the country.

During a previous interview with Pajhwok, the fasting soldier had said he would break his last fast in Makkah.

He has served in different positions and in different provinces of the country. He is currently serving as commander of a platoon of the 3rd brigade of the 209thShaheen Military Corps in northern Balkh province.

The interview, he had said that he had started fasting for greater peace and elimination of corruption from Afghanistan.

He said he embarked on the spiritual practice after the head of a family was killed in a security incident almost 10 years back and the same year Afghanistan was declared the most corrupt country. The two incidents led him to start fasting for peace in the country.

In a fresh chat with Pajhwok, Frotan hoped the ongoing peace negotiations between the Afghan government and Taliban in Qatar would yield fruitful results.

He said the four decades of war consumed countless lives of Afghans who could no longer tolerate the ongoing crisis. He called for an immediate truce in the country.

He said, “I’m pleased to see Afghans are sitting face to face to find solution to the long running conflict.” He urged all Afghans to work peace.
