OIC wants Afghan parties to declare ceasefire

KABUL to focus their efforts on achieving success in the ongoing intra-Afghan talks.

Following a recent surge in violence that caused many casualties, including women and children, the OIC urged all stakeholders to reduce violence.

The Islamic bloc also asked the parties to declare an immediate ceasefire and opt for dialogue -- the only way to reach comprehensive reconciliation.

Secretary-General Dr. Yousef Al Othaimeen recalled OIC initiatives and efforts for reconciliation and lasting peace in the framework of an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace process.

He referred to the resolutions adopted by the Islamic Summits and the Council of Foreign Ministers, stressing the importance of the Makkah Declaration adopted in 2018 by the International Ulema Conference for Peace and Security in Afghanistan.

The declaration calls for dialogue, reconciliation and tolerance based on the values of Islam to fulfill aspirations of the Afghan people for peace, security and development.
