Nation to bring change if govt, Taliban fail: CM

KABUL did not end the ongoing conflict and failed to use necessary flexibility in peace talks, the nation will rise up to change the current dire situation.

Hundreds of members of the CM held a gathering in Kabul and asked the warring sides to reconcile.

Nazir Ahmadzai, a former member of Wolesi Jirga activists, former and sitting members of the national assembly, retired civilian and military figures and victims’ families.

In a resolution letter, the Change Movement called on the Afghan government and the Taliban to restart the intra-Afghan peace talks, move from minor issues and discuss the main points of the agenda.

Almost two months back, the intra-Afghan peace negotiations began in Qatari capital Doha city, but the two sides are yet to reach an agreement on the procedures and agenda.

It’s worth mentioning that four members of the Afghan government peace negotiating team returned to Kabul for unknown reasons a few days back.

The CM resolution said the Afghan government and the Taliban must stop violence and blind bombardment and both sides must put forward any demands and ambitions at the negotiating table.

The movement called on the Taliban to first bring reduction in violence, declare truce and stop killing of brothers in Afghanistan.

Nazir Ahmadzai urged the Taliban not to work for their personal interests and instead listen to the demands of people.

He told the Taliban, “You announced ceasefire with foreigners but are killing your Afghans, leave your political and material interests and listen to the voice of the nation.”

Ahmadzai added if the ongoing peace talks gave no results, his movement was ready to mediate in the negotiations as a third party, so that the negotiations could proceed faster.

A number of other members of the movement held similar views and urged the Afghan government and the Taliban to declare truce for lasting peace in Afghanistan.
