Nangarhar gets special virus hospital for police

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A 50-bed hospital has been established in eastern Nangarhar province for treatment of policemen with coronavirus symptoms, an official said on Tuesday.

Riyazuddin Darmal, a top Ministry of Interior official, who inaugurated the facility, said the hospital contained 50 beds including 10 beds allocated for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the remaining for coronavirus patients.

He said the facility was funded by UNDP and other assisting organizations and would be an exemplarily on the country’s level.

The ICU unit is furnished with eight ventilators, simple oxygen machines, ECG, special monitor and section machines, he added.

Governor Ziaulhaq Amarkehl said the purpose of building the hospital was to assure security personnel that the government was behind them and was committed to resolving their problems.

Police Chief Ghulam Sakhi Stanikzai said not only police from Nangarhar, but from other provinces would be provided with treatment in the newly constructed hospital.

He pledged to fully secure the hospital and assured that all equipment would be taken care of.
