KABUL (Pajhwok): The Mesharano Jirga or Senate on Sunday approved next year’s budget and sent it to the lower house with recommendations.
The government dispatched the 452 billion afghanis draft budget for fiscal year 2021 to the Mesharano Jirga last month for approval.
Abdul Wahab Erfan, head of the Senate Economic and Finance Commission, said the draft budget had been prepared based on national priorities, available resources and taking into account the approaches and reforms in the last year’s financial planning
He said the next year budget included 515 ongoing development projects and 18 new uplift schemes.
Erfan said a 21-page recommendations of the Mesharano Jirga had been attached with the budget document. He said the proposals were about the national and public welfare projects that the government had ignored.
Earlier, Finance Minister Abdul HadiArghandiwal said that 216 billion afghanis of the normal budget would be provided from national resources and the remaining would be supported from foreign sources, including loan from the International Monitory Fund (IMF).
In line with article 98 of the Constitution, the draft budget should first land in Mesharano Jirga and after its consultation, the document should go to the Wolesi Jirga.
