GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Unknown gunmen have blown up Mullah Nuh Baba’s shrine in the Andar district of southern Ghazni province, local officials said on Wednesday.

“The ceiling and other parts of the shrine were damaged in the bomb attack,” Wahidullah Jumazada, the governor’s spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the perpetrators managed to flee the area on the Kabul-Kandahar highway. Security forces have mounted a manhunt for the attackers.

The attack came in the wake of the capture of three security check-posts by the Taliban. There have been a string of clashes between the rebels and government forces in the area.

Resident Abdullah (not a real name) told Pajhwok the government had struck the shrine. He claimed the government bombed the area after the Taliban overran the check-posts.

In the first airstrike, a Taliban militant and a civilian were killed while the second raid resulted in damaging the shrine.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.

Earlier, Shams Baba, Baha-ul-Haq and Wali Neeka shrines were also blown up in Ghazni province.
