Historic Islamic world ulema conference soon

KABUL (Pajhwok): Muslim World League secretary general Dr. Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa on Thursday said a historic conference of scholars of the Islamic world will be held soon to ensure peace in Afghanistan.

The renowned scholar said this during a meeting with Afghanistan Foreign Minister Hanif Atmar in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The two sides held comprehensive talks on the current situation in Afghanistan and discussed the role of ulema and religious authorities of the Islamic world in ending the bloodshed and securing peace in the war-torn country and the fight against extremism and terrorism.

Atmar spoke about threatening dimensions of the war in Afghanistan and how it affected trans-regional activities. He also talked about agendas of extremist and terrorist groups in Afghanistan and the region.

The foreign minister said the violence in Afghanistan contradicted Islamic beliefs and teachings.

He said extremists from various countries and organizations had turned Afghanistan into their military base to pursue certain goals and rescuing Afghanistan from the current war, in fact, meant rescuing the Islamic world and human society from the growing threat of violence.

“Through the peace process, we want the Taliban to break away from other foreign extremist groups in the region and return to a peaceful and political life in their country”, he added.

Sheikh Al-Issa said, “Terrorism has no place in Islam, and criminal and terrorist acts should not be attributed to Islam, we consider it our responsibility to help end the war and ensure peace in Afghanistan”.

He promised that in near future, in accordance with his previous commitment, the International Organization of Islamic World would bring together influential thinkers, scholars and muftis of the Islamic world in a large and historic conference to seek a fundamental solution to the Afghan crisis from a religious perspective.

The head of the Muslim World League said that the outcome of the conference should be historic and decisive.

He added a solution would be found to follow up on the results and implement the conference’s decisions, and that the Taliban would be invited to attend the grand conference to ensure their participation.
