KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan on Thursday beat Ireland by 16 runs in their first One Day International (ODI) cricket match in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
After winning the toss, Afghanistan decided to bat first and the men in blue managed to score 287 runs, thanks to debutant Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s heroic 127 knock.
Gurbaz’s century helped Afghanistan post a competitive total which the Irish side could not chase and they were bundle out for 271 after losing nine wickets in the allotted overs.
Ireland Lorcan Tucker’ s 96 runs for 83 balls helped his side almost reach the target, but they fell 16 runs short.
Afghanistan’s bowlers took wickets in a successive fashion with fast bowler Naveen ulhaq grabbing three wickets and Mujeeb and Rashid Khan shared two scalps each.
