KABUL (Pajhwok): A leading Wolesi Jirga candidate from northern Kunduz province, Basira Rassouli, has found her way to the lower house after the death of Fatima Aziz.
Fatima Aziz died as a result of cancer in Switzerland last week. Following the lawmaker’s demise, her seat fell vacant.
Independent Election Commission Secretary Habib Rahman Nang told Pajhwok Afghan News that Rassouli would soon take oath as a Wolesi Jirga member.
He said Rassouli was a candidate from Kunduz who had finished third in terms of votes in the previous general election.
Based on the election law, Nang said, when a member of the Wolesi Jirga resigned or died, another leading candidate found his/her way to the house.
