KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan will slide into civil strife if foreign troops depart before the conclusion of a peace deal, the national security advisor has warned.
Hamdullah Mohib told a news conference here on Saturday the Ashraf Ghani administration desired a lasting ceasefire instead of a simple reduction in violence.
The NSA reiterated the government’s call for the Taliban to put a halt to the killing of Afghans. He believed the time was ripe for the militant movement to negotiate in good faith.
The government’s negotiating team had returned to Doha, the capital of Qatar, to resume talks with the Taliban, the top security official.
In response to a query, he said a government delegation would visit Turkey to attend next month’s summit in Istanbul on the Afghan peace process.
The Taliban would not come to power through military means and war, the NSA said, adding the rebel group’s negotiators had not yet presented a roadmap for peace.
