KABUL (Pajhwok): The Supreme Court on Wednesday said four judges had been arrested over corruption charges while six others were given disciplinary punishment.

A statement from the Supreme Court received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that the High Council of the Supreme Court held a session chaired by chief justice, SayedYousufHalim about the corruption of judges on Tuesday.

The statement said the council first listened to the report of Administrative Anti-Corruption Team about the case.

It said 37 court officials, including four judges, three readers, a defense lawyer and 30 other individuals had been arrested on bribery, facilitating bribery, cheating, forgery, fake witnessing and some other cases in the last one year.

The statement said that the Judicial Observation Department prevented 40 commissioners’ engagement with court affairs and responded to cases referred to it on time.

The decision about the four accused judges was made in presence of deputy Attorney General Office, the accused and their relatives and the verdict was made in accordance with the article 282 of the Criminal Procedure Law, the source said.

It added that six judges belonging to Kabul, Balkh and Kandahar provinces were given disciplinary punishment due to violating their duty responsibilities.
