1379 new Covid-19 cases, 50 deaths in 24 hours: MoPH

KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 1,379 new Covid-19 cases and 50 deaths have been recorded in Afghanistan in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Public Health said on Sunday.

The ministry in a statement said 4,544 tests were conducted during the past 24 hours and the virus was detected in 1,379 people, bringing the overall tally to 80,615.

Of the fresh cases, 396 were recorded in Kabul, 139 in Kandahar, 113 in Badakhshan, 98 in Balkh, 88 in Panjshir, 85 in Kunduz, 75 in Kapisa, 73 in MaidanWardak, 68 in Herat, 50 in Faryab, 47 in Takhar, 29 in Helmand, 25 each in Daikundi and Paktika, 24 in Ghor, 18 in Farah, 16 in Bamiyan and 10 in Kunar province.

At least 357 individuals recovered from the pandemic during the period, taking the total recoveries to 58,622.

The MoPH said 50 people died of the virus in the past 24 hours, pushing the overall death toll to 3,195.

The global infection tally has reached 173 million, with 152 million recovering and over 3.7 million losing lives to the infection.
