KABUL (Pajhwok): The Tokyo Olympics have come to an end, with Afghanistan failing to win a single award and the US topping the table with 113 medals.
China and Japan won second and third positions respectively at the pandemic-hit games, featuring five Afghan taekwondo athletes, archers and swimmers.
Although the Afghans won accolades for their performance, they could not win any medal at the Tokyo Olympics, which began on July 23.
Dr Shaida Abdali, Afghan Ambassador to Japan said: “These hard times derived from the COVID pandemic that has hit every single infrastructure around the world, be it business, travel and sports in particular.
He addd: “It would not have been an easy go for any nation to be home to the Olympics Japan has been brave enough to take the initiative and host the games.”
He added sports institutions and nations around the world were appreciative of the proud Japanese nation for the great work it had done.
