KABUL (Pajhwok): Zeroing in on Kabul, Taliban fighters have seized central Logar province and detained a number of officials, a lawmaker confirmed on Saturday.
Hoda Ahmadi told the Associated Press the insurgents had reached the Char Asyab district, 11 kilometers south of Kabul.
Following the overnight fall of the provincial capital Pul-i-Alam, the insurgents overran many parts of the province.
On Friday, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid tweeted the rebels had overrun the police headquarters and the main prison in Pul-i-Alam.
Mujahid claimed several Afghan National Army soldiers had surrendered. He said the Taliban also seized weapons, including two tanks.
He also released video clips of Taliban advances in Logar, President Ashraf Ghani’s home.
