Uzbekistan detains 84 Afghan service members

KABUL (Pajhwok): More than 80 Afghan military personnel have fled to Uzbekistan, the Foreign Ministry in Tashkent said on Sunday.

A statement from the ministry said: "On August 14, a group of 84 Afghan armed forces members crossed ... and was detained by border patrol units."

TASS reported, citing the statement, reported the Afghan security personnel did not offer resistance and asked for help, including medical aid, for three wounded service members.

They received necessary assistance, including meals and temporary accommodation. The Uzbek government is in talks with Afghanistan on the return of the security personnel.
