PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Russian President Vladimir Putin has exchanged views with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on the latest developments in Afghanistan.
The exchange of views, the second between the two leaders in less than a month, came on Tuesday, when Putin phoned Khan.
Recalling their telephone conversation of August 25, they conferred on collaboration within the domain of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said that Khan underlined the importance of peace and stability in Afghanistan for regional security and prosperity.
He emphasised on the “urgent need” to provide humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan and the imperative of averting an economic crisis there.
He urged the international community to stay engaged with war-torn country, saying: “the Afghan people should not be abandoned at this crucial juncture.”
Close coordination and consultations between Pakistan and Russia on the evolving situation in Afghanistan were of crucial importance, Khan remarked.
