TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): The residents of central Uruzgan province have complained about growing incidents of robbery and kidnapping in the province.
Local authorities, however, pledged to arrest criminals and miscreants and try them according to the law.
The residents of Uruzgan raised their concerns after three incidents of kidnapping took place in the Dihrawod district while some people in Tirinkot and other districts complained about robbery and valuables’ snatching cases.
Najibullah, a resident of Dihrwod district, said the kidnapping incidents happened in the district were for ransom money.
“Recently, the son of a businessman was freed after they paid nine million afs in ransom, in the second incident, the kidnapped son of another businessman was killed after the father failed to pay the ransom money.”
Mohammad Naseem, another resident of Uruzgan, said crimes especially robberies had increased in the city recently.
“Robbers steal valuables from shops as well as from people’s homes,” he said.
Some other residents expressed similar views and asked local officials to ensure safety and security of the people.
Mawlavi Kamran, deputy security chief of Uruzgan, said they conducted operations in Dihrawud district and arrested an eight-member group of robbers.
He said the arrested individuals had confessed to their crimes while efforts were on to arrest the remaining members of the group.
