KABUL (Pajhwok): Sohail Ahmadi, an infant who went missing in the chaos at Kabul airport in August last year, has been found and handed over to his relatives in Kabul.

Reuters news agency reported that Hamid Safi, a taxi driver who found the boy at the airport, handed him over to his grandfather Mohammad Qasim Razavi, a resident of Badakhshan province, in Kabul.

The baby disappeared at the age of two months on August 19 last year following the fall of Kabul and the evacuation of his family to the United States.

Ahmadi was found by Hamid Safi and taken to his home. Now Safi has handed over the baby to his grandfather Mohammad Ghasem Razavi.

Safi said he found the baby alone and crying on the ground. After he unsuccessfully tried to locate the baby's parents inside, he decided to take the infant home. Safi has three daughters of his own and said his mother's greatest wish before she died was for him to have a son.

Ahmadi's grandfather has said that he would now try to reunite the baby with his parents in the US who have left Afghanistan months ago.

The report says the rest of the baby’s family was evacuated - eventually ending up at a military base in Texas. For months they had no idea where their son was.
