KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation (MoRR) and representatives of the United Nations and partner organisations have discussed plans for 2027, aid coordination, challenges facing refugees and returnees and continued cooperation.
According to a ministry statement, the meeting was held between Mullah Mahboobullah Motahari, head of the MoRR’s Department for Coordination of Institutions, and representatives of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), UN Development Programme (UNDP), UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Global Fund and Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC).
The meeting covered 2027 plans and programmes, coordination for the safe and orderly distribution of aid, assessment of existing challenges and the signing of memorandums of understanding (MoUs).
Motahari called for greater attention to returnees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other vulnerable people.
He stressed transparent and equitable aid distribution, protection of refugees’ rights and closer coordination between government institutions and aid organisations.
He also called for providing food, clean water, healthcare, shelter and rent assistance to refugees during winter, as well as supporting agriculture and offering vocational training.
He said self-reliance should be the main objective of humanitarian assistance.
Representatives of the partner organisations stressed the importance of implementing existing MoUs and thanked the ministry for its cooperation. They said assistance had been delivered to people in need on time, while some IDPs had also been relocated from Kabul to Baghlan in coordination with the ministry.
They reaffirmed their commitment to transparency and equitable services for returnees, including at border points. They said returnees at border areas receive legal, counselling, food, healthcare and educational services based on their needs.
Participants agreed to continue joint meetings to address challenges, saying regular coordination and exchange of views could help develop better solutions.
