KABUL (Pajhwok): France has kicked off technical talks with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) to facilitate the direct deportation of Afghan migrants without legal residency who are considered by French authorities to pose a threat to public order, according to a media report.
Agence France-Presse (AFP), citing a French diplomatic source on Wednesday, reported that the move, similar to efforts by some other European countries, was aimed at facilitating the direct deportation of Afghan nationals without legal residency who are considered a threat to public order.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue, stressed that the start of the talks did not mean France was normalising diplomatic relations with the IEA.
France’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs declined to comment when asked by AFP about the possibility of IEA representatives travelling to France to facilitate the deportation of Afghan migrants.
The diplomatic source did not specify the number of individuals who could be deported, but another source familiar with the matter said it could be “hundreds”.
According to the source, how the process would be implemented was still under consideration.
The IEA has not yet commented on the matter.
