SHARAN (Pajhwok): The Revenue Department of southeastern Paktika province collected 542 million afghanis from its revenue sources in the past four months, an official said on Saturday.
Paktika Revenue Department Head Mawlavi Abdul WahabUmari told reporters here 542 million afs were collected in the past four months, adding that 225 million afs had been collected previously in eight months, showing a three times surge compared to the past.
According to Umari, main reason behind the surge in revenue was prevention of corrupt practices and ensuring transparency in revenue collection process.
Besides surge in Custom Department revenue, there was increase in the revenue of Justice, Statistics, Passport, Transport and other departments.
The residents of Paktika said authorities were responsible for the appropriate use of government revenue.
Haji Akbar, head of the Sharan Shopkeepers Union, said officials should fight corruption and shall spend revenue to serve the masses.
He believed if corrupt practices were halted there will be more surge in the revenue and most of the budget would be supported from internal resources.
