PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A third consignment of 2,200 tonnes of wheat from India is on its way to Afghanistan, a Pakistani newspaper reported on Sunday.
A convoy of 40 trucks collected the wheat from India via the Wagah border near Lahore and left for Afghanistan on Saturday, Dawn said.
India has donated 50,000 tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan on humanitarian grounds. Two shipments of the wheat aid have already reached Jalalabad via Pakistan.
A Pakistani official told the newspaper: “This is the third wheat consignment from India which has been received by the government of Afghanistan.”
The first convoy of 41 trucks had transported a consignment of 2,500 tonnes of wheat on February 22, with the second shipment of 2,000 tonnes reaching Afghanistan on March 5.
On Saturday, the third convoy of 40 trucks laden with 2,200 tonnes of wheat from India returned to Afghanistan.
