US suspends normal trade links with Russia

KABUL (Pajhwok): The US president has inked bills suspending normal trade relations with Russia and Belarus, says a media report.

Already passed by the Congress, the bills also prevent energy imports from Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine, the White House said on Friday.

President Joe Biden, who had issued in March an order banning energy imports from Russia, signed both papers, TASS news agency reported.

The suspension of this status will authorise the US to set higher tariffs for Russian and Belarus than for other WTO member states.
