SAR-I-PUL CITY (Pajhwok): Nearly all school children in northern Sar-i-Pul province have been faced with a shortage of textbooks, an official said on Wednesday.
Students and teachers also complained about the lack of curriculum books at schools and said the majority of students did not have books.
Education Director Mawlavi Mohammad Rahmani told Pajhwok Afghan News “Ninety-seven percent of students facing a shortage of curriculum books.”
He said over the years Sar-i-Pul students faced with the shortage of curriculum books and this hampered their learning process in general.
Mawlavi Rahmani said they suggested printing of over 2.7 million curriculum books from class one to 12 to the education ministry, adding that the ministry is printing books for 19 provinces, including Sar-i-Pul and their problems would be resolved soon.
He said nearly 172,000 students were being imparted education in the provinces in 242 schools.
Fatema, a student from the Balkhab district, said: “Most the students are without books. In our class, five students are studying from one book and this is a huge problem. We can’t properly study and could not write our homework.”
She asked government officials to resolve their problems and provide them with curriculum books.
