KABUL (Pajhwok): Since last year’s political change in the country, the CNIC branch in the 17th police district of Kabul has issued more than 42,000 e-ID cards and collected 14 million afs in revenue, officials said on Saturday.
Mohammad Halim Rafi, spokesman for the 17th district CNIC distribution branch, said in a statement that 45,000 applications had been received and over 42,000 e-ID cards issued so far.
Rafi added 14 million afs revenue had been contributed to the state treasury in the form of CNIC fees since August 2021.
He added the branch, having 48 male and female officials, had the capacity of registering 1,500 applicants, taking their biometrics and processing their cases on a daily basis.
In addition to distributing new e-ID cards, the branch offers services like registration of undocumented family members, newborns and marriages.
Pajhwok reported on Aug 1, 2022 that the printing of CNICs had been suspended till further orders by the government due to the lack of blank ID cards but applicants’ registration and biometrics would go on as usual.
The issuance of e-ID cards began on May 3, 2018 across the country. The National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) says 8.2 million CNICs have been issued since the start of the process while 2.1 million have been distributed after the political change in the country.
