KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) settled 730 cases out of a total of 2,339 cases in the past year, an official said on Sunday.

Deputy Justice Minister Shaikh Abdul Karim Haidar while addressing reporters regarding the performance of the justice ministry said the presence of political parties was not an important factor in the current scenario.

He said in the past year 2,339 cases landed in the ministry for settlement of which 532 cases were referred to the primary courts, 124 to the appellant courts, and 80 other cases were referred to the High Court.

He said the Defence Lawyers Association (DLA) was merged in the ministry based on the cabinet decision and the DLA had completed the evaluation of 844 defence lawyers in 17 batches, they also addressed 10 complaint cases as well.

The ministry also issued 415 licenses to lawyers, 482 identity cards and 532 tariff invoices to defence lawyers in the past year.

Editing of 20 procedures and legislative documents, providing 172 legal advices to government departments, expressing opinions on 26 international legal documents, expressing opinions on the legislative documents of departments and amending and revising procedures according to the policy of the Islamic Emirate, are among the main activities of this ministry in the past year.

Justice ministry, in the course of one year, expressed its opinion on 26 international documents, including agreements, treaties, memorandums, covenants and protocols and has translated a total of 82,422 official documents of the country into foreign languages

Referring to the question on the activities of political parties, he said: “There is no need for political parties currently because in Afghanistan once political parties staged coup and then Russian invaded the country. At that time it was the need of the hour for the creation of political parties because there was no unanimous leader to lead the Jihad against the Soviet Union.”

He said: “Today there is a united and strong political system in the country, there is reliable and eligible Ameer who acted in line with national unity and stopped Afghanistan from disintegration.”

Referring to working women’s presence in the government office, he said until the creation of a safe and protected environment women will not be allowed to work.
