KABUL (Pajhwok): The grave of Mullah Mohammad Omar Mujahid, the founder of the Islamic Emirate, was on Sunday revealed to the public during a ceremony in Suri district of southern Zabul province.
The Taliban’s supreme leader died in 2013 due to an illness in Zabul. More than six months ago, a meeting was held in Kabul to mark the 9th death anniversary of Mullah Omar.
Islamic Emirate spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said on his Twitter today that Mullah Mohammad Omar Mujahid’s grave was revealed during a ceremony.
He said the Prime Minister and members of the cabinet attended the ceremony in Omarzai area of Zabul’s Suri district.
According to him, the holy Quran was recited there and citizens were asked to pray for his soul.
According to Bakhtar news agency, Mullah Mohammad Omar Mujahid was buried in a desert near the village of Omarzai in Suri district.
The agency wrote on its Twitter page that Prime Minister Mullah Muhammad Hassan Akhund, acting Defense Minister Maulvi Muhammad Yaqub Mujahid, acting Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani and several other leaders and members of Mullah Omar’s family visited his grave and prayed for him.
Mullah Omar was born in 1950 in Khakrez district of southern Kandahar province and he belonged to the Hotak tribe.
After the death of his father Maulvi Ghulam Nabi, he moved with his family to Dehrawud district of Uruzgan province.
Mulllah Omar was appointed as leader of the Taliban movement after its emergence in 1994.
